Can you play slarpg with controller or is it keyboard only?

Anonymous

You can use a controller! RPG Maker’s built in controller remapping menu is admittedly a little fiddly, but any regular PC-compatible gamepad should work just fine. When having someone else playtest in person I always use an Xbox controller

And of course if you don’t like the built-in menu you can always just use a program like JoyToKey to map the keyboard controls to your controller however you want

If you compare SLARPG's Uncanny Valley to the Uncanny Valley in the new Chip 'n Dale film, which is better?

Anonymous

Theirs is an actual joke about the uncanny valley effect, ours is just me going “haha wouldn’t it be funny if I named the spooky forest area that” years ago. However ours isn’t in the new Chip ‘n Dale film, so it’s automatically better. (Shots fired!!!!!!!!! How will The Walt Disney Company ever recover from this burn from the official Tumblr of a modestly anticipated furry RPG Maker game)

You're Bobby Schroeder, right? Any relation to Madeline Schroeder, the so-called "Mother of Sonic" who influenced Sonic's design?

Anonymous

Not to my knowledge, no. It’s just a common German surname. But I have always found the coincidence funny

I love the look of this game and I'm super looking forward to it but the only criticism is that the characters feel flat because there little nuance relating to lesbian iconography or culture. I feel like "and she was lesbian" was added as a character quark at least that's how it comes off to me. I can look past it tho because I feel the full release might give me more of what I'm looking for in these characters.

Gotta be honest, I’m open to criticism, but “not gay enough” is certainly a new one. Almost the entire story revolves around the characters’ love lives, and said characters are mostly women who are in love with other women

I'm interested in the meanings of names, so would you be able to share the inspirations for the SLARPG characters' names?

Anonymous

I previously went over the origins of their last names here. Unless otherwise stated the main cast’s first names didn’t really have any significant meaning when I came up with them beyond “this sounds nice.” The only exceptions are Allison (who’s named after Jeff Rosenstock song “Hey Allison!”) and Faith (paladins derive their power from faith in this world and she’s the boss of the Paladin Brigade). I may have also been subconsciously influenced by The Blaire Witch Project when I named Claire

I love the concept of this game and hope it's a huge success! :-) Just wanted to check, are people cool, or have you guys been getting any hate from transphobes or whatever? Because I was going to ask other Tumblr users to check you out. I (perhaps idealistically) hope the magic of SLARPG will make the "gender critical" peeps respect trans women, but that's not a guarantee, and I don't want to be responsible for a barrage of hate coming your way. So how can we promote you?

Anonymous

I’ll preface this by saying the response to this game over the years has mostly been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve gotten a lot of excited comments, and a bunch of fanart (I have a bulletin board full of fanart next to me right now!), and some heartfelt messages about how much the game already means to people, and a lot of people have played the demo, and while I’m not exactly making bank on Patreon it’s been enough to get by. This is what’s kept me going on this project that’s ended up being much larger and taking much longer than I initially planned

But I won’t sugarcoat it. Having this many eyes on a project, as a trans woman making a game that is very openly gay and trans with a title like “Super Lesbian Animal RPG,” has attracted some harassment. It’s absolutely not constant, and nothing serious has ever happened, but yeah, I have gotten some really vile messages in the past. That is, unfortunately, part of the reality of being a trans woman with an audience on the internet. I’ve taken some steps to lessen it, but it’s just kind of a thing I have to be ready for. No matter how good my art is, no matter how I behave, I will never be able to win over every bigot and cancel out the harassment. That’s just not how it works

But like I said, the response has been very, very positive for the most part, and that means the world to me. I’m making the game to entertain other people like myself, not to try and educate bigots. As for spreading the word: honestly, just telling people about the game and the demo helps a ton, as does the fanart. But uh… well, don’t go actively sending the game to transphobes thinking that Melody and Claire will fix their hearts lol

What's up with all the pink? Not a criticism - I love pink too! Just curious to learn about the design process for the aesthetic.

I like pink

Obviously it's called a lesbian RPG but are any of the characters bi or pan women dating another woman?

Anonymous

It’s a pretty even split! The title isn’t meant to indicate that every character in the game is a lesbian. Three of the four party members are lesbians, but Melody is bi, as are some of the supporting characters like Faith, Beverly, Holly, and Rhett.

Any chance you could post the other party members stats page like Melody's? :D

Anonymous

Sure! Keep in mind that all of this is naturally subject to change, especially the stats themselves. (Also if youโ€™re really worried about the numbers, none of them have equipment here.)

What are the differences between the paladin specializations?

Anonymous

Within the demo, each specialization has a bit of unique dialogue, and at level 2 Melody learns her chosen spec’s signature Star Power spell:

  • As a Woodland Paladin, she learns Woodland Healing, a spell that heals one party member over time
  • As an Amorous Paladin, she learns Paladin’s Gift, which partially restores one party member’s MP
  • And as a Resolute Paladin, she learns Resolute Seal, which adds a damaging status effect to a single enemy

In the full game, each spec will have one or two more unique spells to learn, as well as a bit of exclusive optional story content. But don’t stress too much over the choice. The main story is unchanged by Melody’s spec, and her playstyle can still be customized quite a bit via different Spellbooks and equipment

is the villain a tumblr husband? a onceler?
