it’s like 8am and i have not slept yet but i just thought y’all would like to know that at the wee hours of the morning anthony did the first ever start to finish playthrough of the slarpg demo

a lot of it is still rough. i got some great feedback from him about some balance changes that need to be made, there are still placeholder assets in some places, and there’s a little bit of optional content still missing. but! he saw most of it and played through the whole critical path, i’m very happy with how it’s coming along

also if his playthrough is any indication then if you do EVERYTHING in the demo and get all the optional dialogue then it’s like. 45 minutes long?

it’s beefy

hello friends!

it’s been quite some time since i last shared any music from the SLARPG OST, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been work on it! in fact, the whole soundtrack has been reimagined from the ground up… and it started with this theme for Faith, the elected Guardian of Greenridge.

SLARPG has grown a lot since it began—and with it, so has its need for a diverse sound. this theme marked a turning point for the game’s music, moving it from a limited set of “chiptune” style sounds to what is now a much fuller and more exciting set of instruments and effects.

since finishing this theme, the rest of the soundtrack has been completely overhauled with this new approach. the result, for those of you who have been following the soundtrack’s development until now, should be a very pleasant surprise when the game demo is released. :)

enjoy, and thanks for your continued support of the project!

hey, who wants to hear a new song off the game’s soundtrack? this time it’s a very cool theme for everyone’s favorite unicorn faith

like bee said, the music has been evolving quite a bit lately! i’m excited for everyone to hear it in the demo in the near future

hi everyone! here’s a little peek at a new area from Super Lesbian Animal RPG. this is The Astral Plane, a mysterious little area the party will pop into a few times even though they probably shouldn’t

i’ve received an overwhelming amount of support over the last 24 hours after telling everyone about my housing situation and asking for some financial help, and i thought it’d be nice to post a little something as a small way of saying thanks

Are there going to be any animals that are non binary? I don't like the idea of a plant being the only character who is not a boy or girl because we're often given the "odd" characters like aliens or inanimate objects and it feels very dehumanizing even if the characters of this game aren't exactly human

yes, there are some nonbinary animals in there too! Noel is just the first nb character I chose the show off because they’re relatively important as far as NPCs go, and also I wanted to show that there would be other species of character in the game beyond beast folk

the last thing I’d wanna do is imply that only characters from other species or artificially created characters are allowed to exist outside the gender binary

So swearing in the game will be allowed?

no provence’s first act as captain of the paladin brigade was to outlaw cussing

for the longest time i didn’t really have any alternate mugshots in SLARPG aside from the handful way back in the first trailer, but now melody has several expressions and is capable of looking concerned. which is important, because she’s concerned roughly 80% of the time

I’m not sure if I’ve asked this before but will there be options for other languages?

There are currently no plans for the game to be in any languages beyond English at launch–the script is kind of huge, and I’ll undoubtedly be tweaking bits of dialogue here and there right up until the game’s release. I would also need to be absolutely certain that any translations were on par with my original script because the dialogue is everything in this game, and that’s not exactly easy

Post-launch? I have no idea. Things could change if there was particularly high demand or if I was approached by a good translator, but at the moment there are no translations planned

i’d talked about implementing difficulty options in slarpg for quite a while, but now i’ve actually got a rough easy mode implemented in the game!

at the moment how it works is you’re given a key item that can change the difficulty at any point out of battle. the game will ask you whether you want to start on easy or normal at the beginning, but i’d hate for someone to have to restart the whole game just because they ended up changing their mind on the difficulty, so you can just change it whenever after that initial selection. it kind of feels like giving you a cheat button, but eh. i’m sure a lot of players will appreciate it

what the easy mode actually does is swap out every party member’s class with a version that has boosted stats (atk, def, mat, mdf, agi, and luck are all doubled), and auto-regenerating MP just for fun. i previously experimented with both applying an easy mode buff status and giving players easy mode charms to equip the party with, but this seems like the most elegant option

i darkened Super Lesbian Animal RPG’s forest palette a bit to make it spookier and make the glowy bits stand out more. also, something new

(finally remembered to take some screenshots for screenshot saturday again after either not having anything ready to share or just forgetting every week for like forever)

ponett:

oh and here are two random things from slarpg that i posted to twitter but forgot to post here

before this gets even more notes from people saying “i don’t know what this is from but i like it” this is from my upcoming game Super Lesbian Animal RPG

ponett:

A couple weeks ago I shared some new NPCs from Super Lesbian Animal RPG. Now, here’s a look at @exclamationpointman‘s wonderful concept art for them! Beverly and Chet were designed based on some rough ideas and guidelines from me, while the cats were all his idea

Anthony originally envisioned the cat family as an old wizard and his two granddaughters, but I later realized that the game sorely needed more women over the age of 30. I’d hate to accidentally fall into the common character design trap where all the girls are young and cute, while the guys can be weird and old and unattractive (like Bartholomew with his beautiful, beautiful squashed face). So Anthony redesigned Catherine, making her an unassuming, middle aged gardener/witch who smokes, and I instantly fell in love with the design

Rhett’s brother’s design actually went through the OPPOSITE process–he originally looked a lot more gruff in a piece of scrapped concept art, but I told Anthony to soften his design and make him cuter. SLARPG may focus on girls, but we still need some cute boys in there too!!
