January has come and gone, which means it’s time for the first monthly progress update for 2022, the year in which Super Lesbian Animal RPG will be released! If that part is news to you, check out the previous announcement video here. Otherwise, you can read more in the Patreon update!
curiouscat has been weird lately so i am going to take this opportunity to archive some more SLARPG-related Q&A stuff in case it goes down again. here’s a big dump of questions covering a wide range of topics from throughout 2021:
Happy holidays, everyone! Have an early SLARPG monthly update in which I cover the last few weeks of work as well as reflect on this last year of development
Monthly SLARPG progress update time! With all the main story sequences for Act IV (of V) completed in October, this month was all about side quests and playtesting. You can read more in the latest Patreon update
We’ve reached our next major development milestone! The whole main story of Super Lesbian Animal RPG is now playable for our internal testing up through Act IV (of V)! You can read more in the latest Patreon update (also enjoy this random dialogue for the sake of including screenshots in this post)
I'm interested in the meanings of names, so would you be able to share the inspirations for the SLARPG characters' names?
I previously went over the origins of their last names here. Unless otherwise stated the main cast’s first names didn’t really have any significant meaning when I came up with them beyond “this sounds nice.” The only exceptions are Allison (who’s named after Jeff Rosenstock song “Hey Allison!”) and Faith (paladins derive their power from faith in this world and she’s the boss of the Paladin Brigade). I may have also been subconsciously influenced by The Blaire Witch Project when I named Claire
I love the concept of this game and hope it's a huge success! :-) Just wanted to check, are people cool, or have you guys been getting any hate from transphobes or whatever? Because I was going to ask other Tumblr users to check you out. I (perhaps idealistically) hope the magic of SLARPG will make the "gender critical" peeps respect trans women, but that's not a guarantee, and I don't want to be responsible for a barrage of hate coming your way. So how can we promote you?
I’ll preface this by saying the response to this game over the years has mostly been overwhelmingly positive. I’ve gotten a lot of excited comments, and a bunch of fanart (I have a bulletin board full of fanart next to me right now!), and some heartfelt messages about how much the game already means to people, and a lot of people have played the demo, and while I’m not exactly making bank on Patreon it’s been enough to get by. This is what’s kept me going on this project that’s ended up being much larger and taking much longer than I initially planned
But I won’t sugarcoat it. Having this many eyes on a project, as a trans woman making a game that is very openly gay and trans with a title like “Super Lesbian Animal RPG,” has attracted some harassment. It’s absolutely not constant, and nothing serious has ever happened, but yeah, I have gotten some really vile messages in the past. That is, unfortunately, part of the reality of being a trans woman with an audience on the internet. I’ve taken some steps to lessen it, but it’s just kind of a thing I have to be ready for. No matter how good my art is, no matter how I behave, I will never be able to win over every bigot and cancel out the harassment. That’s just not how it works
But like I said, the response has been very, very positive for the most part, and that means the world to me. I’m making the game to entertain other people like myself, not to try and educate bigots. As for spreading the word: honestly, just telling people about the game and the demo helps a ton, as does the fanart. But uh… well, don’t go actively sending the game to transphobes thinking that Melody and Claire will fix their hearts lol
What's up with all the pink? Not a criticism - I love pink too! Just curious to learn about the design process for the aesthetic.
I like pink
The Let’s Make an NPC polls have concluded, and we have our end result! Presenting our new fairy blacksmith, Mint! This and much more in this month’s SLARPG progress update
been sprucing up @slarpg’s astral plane. still one of my favorite areas in the game aesthetically, for obvious reasons
Round two of voting has concluded, and with a species and a job decided on we now have a design for our fairy blacksmith! In round 3, it’s time for $1+ patrons to vote on this new NPC’s color scheme!
The first round of voting to determine the species of our new design-by-committee NPC has concluded, and patrons have decided that she’ll be a fairy! Now it’s time for round 2, in which $1+ patrons will determine what job this character will have in the game!
