You mentioned in a previous ama response that a hard mode would be a possibility for the game, but what about a New Game Plus mode? Maybe one that lets you keep all your gear and/or XP, but adds a twist to the game like making the enemies have double stats, or combining the HP and MP bars into one to make it more difficult to manage effectively?
A New Game+ mode is definitely a possibility, although one with changes as drastic as reworking the battle system isn’t. I’d keep my expectations in check
The wait is almost over!! The Super Lesbian Animal RPG ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK from @bumblequinn is coming on MONDAY (January 23rd) via Bee’s Bandcamp!
Stay tuned for more info (and the full cover art!)
out of curiosity, do you have any plans for official merchandise? and what's your policy on unofficial merch? i'd love a t-shirt or something with the animal girls on them, or an ost cd, but i totally understand if that's not in the cards
Merch of some kind (beyond the upcoming digital release of the soundtrack) is a possibility, I just haven’t really had the bandwidth for it yet. Simple things like pins, prints, and stickers would be pretty easy. Shirts are also doable, it’s always just a struggle with those online t-shirt shops because the quality for a lot of them is, well. Kinda shit, let’s be honest
As for unofficial merch, right now I’d request that people not do too much that’s mass-produced. So like, obviously commissioning an artist to make something bespoke is fine, and something like small quantities of prints for a con table I wouldn’t have an issue with, but selling shirts online is more iffy. Maybe in the future this could change, but right now Bee and I need to make a living off the game
Would it be possible/would you ever add some sort of completion checker? I've completed the game but I'm still not sure I've found everything.
Also, I was wondering if you were planning on adding more sidequests to the noticeboard? from my memory there are only about 2 quests there the whole game.
P.S. I really loved the game!! great job 👍

I have no plans to add a completion percentage to the game. The kinds of games SLARPG is inspired by - classic JRPGs like Final Fantasy, Mother, Dragon Quest, and Chrono Trigger - don’t tend to track completion in that way, because they’re just not about that. There are supposed to be secrets, and rewards for players who go off the beaten path and explore and talk to all the NPCs, and other ways in which playthroughs will differ. The story of the game for each individual player is whatever you did along the way. It’s not supposed to be about doing everything because you want it to say 100% on your file or to get an achievement or whatever. To me that turns it into a checklist of tasks to complete, or a way for people to drive themselves crazy because they don’t know where that last side quest keeping them from 100% is, or an arbitrary incentive forcing players to complete all of the hardest challenges even if they don’t actually enjoy it. That’s not the design ethos of SLARPG. There’s already in-game help pointing you towards the major story side quests, and to me that’s enough
I’m also not planning on adding more side quests. I would’ve liked to add more, but again, the game already took almost eight years to make. What’s there is long enough. I’ve said this repeatedly and will continue to say it until it sinks in
is there a planned proper ost release for the game (on steam, bandcamp or wherever)? i tried looking for it, but i could only find the demo soundtrack.

are you ok with people kinning or self-shipping with SLARPG characters? just wanted to make sure before i did anything!!

I appreciate the gesture of you asking, but really this is not a thing I have any control over lol, especially as the game’s audience grows. It’s fine. Don’t worry about it
Are there any plans of adding a Hard Mode down the line by any chance? Would be fun when replaying with different paladin classes to be able to do it with a bit of a different challenge from the XP Sponges (for example gaining normal amounts of XP but all enemies deals more damage and has more health)

I’ve thought about it! It’s possible, but I’m not 100% sure how I’d want to implement it, since just making enemies hit harder isn’t necessarily that interesting on its own. It would also require a good deal of testing to make sure it’s still balanced, unless I just go all “Fuck it, you want hard? Let’s see if anyone can beat this.”
Quick note! Emergency patch v1.1a is now live to fix a couple issues found with today’s larger update - namely, a potential progression bug found in the final dungeon that could leave players stuck, as well as an error with obtaining the new area map for the Sapphire Coast. As always, Steam users should get the update any second, while itch users can download the new build from the store.
(If you saved after getting stuck with an unusable key in the last dungeon, you should now be able to get a spare if you return to those same chests in the last part of the final dungeon.)
SUPER LESBIAN ANIMAL RPG v1.1 IS HERE! This is the most substantial patch since launch. On top of the usual bug fixes, we have new area maps, the new Additional Guidance mode, and most importantly… Melody now has a pet cat!! Look at him
As always, Steam users should get the patch automatically, while itch users can redownload the game from the store page. Common technical questions are also addressed in our FAQ page.
To try and manage expectations here, while this update contains more than the usual bug fixes, I don’t currently have any plans to add a huge amount of content to the game. Right now I think it’s already long enough, and the game’s structure (with a definitive ending and no postgame) isn’t conducive to adding DLC. And also, you know, what’s there already took almost eight years of my life to make, and that kinda takes a lot out of you. But these additions felt like they would meaningfully improve the experience of what’s already there.

was the trans members of the novas specifically being the ones to use magic intentional, or is that just how it shook out
Just the way it shook out, really! I knew from the start I wanted Melody to be trans and Allison to be cis, and at the very start it was just them and Claire with their gameplay roles all predetermined, so I made Claire trans as well so that Melody wouldn’t be The One Trans Character. And then a bit later Jodie was designed and I made her cis. So it just kinda worked out that way
Any ideas for official merch by any chance? Would love some t-shirts and stickers of the best characters

Possibly! No solid plans at the moment aside from the upcoming release of the soundtrack on Bandcamp and Steam
